X Rebirth

Today Egosoft and Deep Silver announced their next game, X Rebirth. They originally stated that they will announce “TNBT” (The Next Big Thing) later on this month at FedCon XX, April 28th, 2011. What made them announce this earlier, I don’t know.

X Rebirth is a total renewal of the X-Universe games. The fundamentals of the X-Universe games (Trade – Fight – Build – Think) seems to be intact. The story takes place. In the trailer (see below), the narrator says “The supernova changed everything, forever. Old powers and alliances fell, but the spirit of what was remains with those that survive, those with the strength to rebuild what once was. It will be… A Rebirth!” Is this just some backstory? Or is it part of the plot? I for one think it would be neat if you help a specific race become stronger then the others. Or maybe be the president of a race, and be in control of everything.

As far as I know the story goes, the player will play a young adventurer, with a female companion. This seems to be everything they touch up on in their announcement.

For those of you who heard that they will not be releasing another game set in the X-Universe, Bernd Lehahn says this,

“Well that is still true. At least partially
We worked on the old X games from 1996 until 2007. That was 11 years of development and 11 years mostly filled with adding features.
Adding features is pretty cool, as you have this solid foundation. You never have to start from scratch. We replaced the graphics engine twice, and we made many other big changes to the technology, but we were never at a point where nothing would work. Thats a very luxurious position for a game developer to be in.”
